Table leaders Rayon Sports edged bottom-placed side Pepiniere Fc 3-1 to open a five-point lead over arch-rivals and reigning champions APR Fc after a match day 12 of the Azam Rwanda Premier League played on Sunday at Stade de Kigali.

A double from Malian striker Moussa Camara and a strike from Burundian-international Shassir Nahimana were enough to maintain Rayon Sport’s unbeaten run in 12 matches played this season.

The blues have now amassed 32 points, five points ahead of rivals APR Fc who are in second spot. Pepiniere Fc remains bottom with one point in 12 matches played.

In Rubavu, Etincelles Fc emerged the winner of the Western Province derby after defeating Marines Fc 2-1 at Umuganda Stadium. Etincelles Fc improved to eighth spot with 16 points while Marines Fc remains fourteenth with 11 points.

In Northern Province, Gicumbi Fc started with a win at their newly renovated match venue as they registered a slim 1-0 win over visitors Mukura VS at Stade de Gicumbi to acquire seven points but still lie in 15th slot.

On Saturday, AS Kigali ended APR Fc’s unbeaten run following a match day 12 encounter of the on-going Azam Rwanda Premier League played on Saturday at Stade de Kigali.

Reigning champions APR Fc had gone eleven matches unbeaten in which they won eight and drew three to amass 27 points to stand second, two points behind leaders Rayon Sports.

The loss will dent their quest of retaining the Azam Rwanda Premier League title as they now lag behind with Rayon Sports set to play their match day 12 encounter on Sunday against Pepiniere Fc.

AS Kigali remain placed third on the league ladder but went within a point behind APR Fc on 26 points.

In other matches, Police Fc edged Sunrise Fc 2-1 at Kicukiro turf with striker Dany Usengimana grabbing a double to take his goal tally to ten goals scored this season.

Police Fc improved to fourth spot with 24 points while Sunrise Fc remain in seventh slot with 16 points.

In Nyamagabe, Amagaju Fc managed a 1-0 win over Musanze Fc while Bugesera Fc and Kirehe Fc shared spoils in a goalless draw played at Nyamata grounds.
