Rayon Sports fall to Onze Créateurs in Confederation Cup
Rayon Sports suffered a 1-0 loss to Onze Createurs de Niaréla of Mali in the CAF Total Confederation Cup first round, first leg tie at the Stade Omnisports Modibo-Keïta in Bamako on Saturday.
After a first half disciplined tactical performance, Rayon Sports failed to hold onto their display as the home side secured a crucial victory courtesy of a strike from Boubacar Samassékou in the 69th minute.
Efforts of Rayon Sports equalizing were futile despite attempts from Malian duo of Moussa Camara and Tidiane Kone.
Despite applying some pressure in the final stages of the game, Massoud Djuma’s side was unable to really carve out any openings and it ended 1-0 to the Malian side.
The Blues are scheduled to arrive in Kigali on Sunday night to start preparations for the return leg scheduled for next Saturday, March 18 at Amahoro Stadium.
The blues will be required to avoid conceding any goal at home and ensure they register a 2-0 win to be on the safe side of qualifying to the next round or a 1-0 win which would take both sides to a penalty shoot-out to decide the eventual winner since they will all be tied to a 1-all goal aggregate.
Should Rayon Sports win the first round double legged-match, they will qualify to the play-off round where the 16 winners of the first round will face the 16 losers of the Champions League first round. The 16 winners of the play-off round will advance to the lucrative group stage.
