Rayon Sports thump four past Amagaju Fc to open 11-point gap at summit

Rayon Sports maintained their excellent form as they thrashed Amagaju Fc 4-1 in their match day 22 encounter of the Azam Rwanda Premier League played at Stade de Kigali on Wednesday night.

In a game which was played under floodlights, the Blues dominated the game and they needed only fifteen minutes to find the net courtesy of Nsengiyumva Moustapha’s goal.

Nsengiyumva who had a successful evening doubled the lead in the 34th minute when Amagaju Fc goalie Muhawenayo Gadi punched Kwizera Pierrot’s free kick to the incoming Rayon Sports striker who made no mistake but to slot his second goal of the day.

Both sides went into recess with Rayon Sports having a two-goal advantage. After, recess, both sides continued to play an attack-minded game but it’s Rayon Sports who dominated the midfield battle, a feat which enabled Muhire Kevin to score the third goal of the blues in the 60th minutes off a cross from Kwizera Pierro.

Seven minutes later, Djabel Manishimwe dribbled past Amagaju defender to score the fourth goal for Rayon Sports.

Alanga Yenga Joachim snatched the lone consolation goal for the visitors in additional time.

The win has now seen Rayon Sports go 11 points clear of their closest rivals APR Fc at the summit of the Azam Rwanda Premier League. The Blues have now amassed 55 points in 22 matches played this season.

Second-placed and reigning champions APR Fc are on 44 points, followed by Police Fc and AS Kigali who have 43 points each, having won 17 matches, drawn four and lost only once.

Amagaju Fc remain in tenth slot with 25 points after winning seven matches, drawn four and lost 11 respectively.

Gicumbi Fc and Pepiniere Fc lie in the relegation zone with 18 and 12 points respectively.

With eight matches remaining to the end of the 2016/17 Azam Rwanda Premier League, the blues are clear favorite winners of the league title.

Rayon Sports’s remaining matches include an away tie to Gicumbi Fc on April 16 (will be postponed due to the blues engagement in Confederation Cup), home tie against Mukura VS at Stade de Kigalion April 23, an away tie to Musanze Fc on April 29, home tie against Kirehe Fc at Stade de Kigali on May 7, an away tie to Pepiniere Fc on May 19 in Ruyenzi, an away tie to Etincelles Fc on May 27 at Stade Umuganda, home tie against reigning champions APR Fc on June 17 at Amahoro Stadium before winding up the season with an away tie to SC Kiyovu on June 25 at Stade Mumena.

The Azam Rwanda Premier League will resume on April 15 with match day 23 after the 23rd anniversary of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi which starts on April 7 to 14.
