Rayon Sports thump four past Amagaju Fc to open 11-point gap at summit

Posted on Apr 05 2017

Rayon Sports maintained their excellent form as they thrashed Amagaju Fc 4-1 in their match day 22 encounter of the Azam Rwanda Premier League played at Stade de Kigali on Wednesday night.

In a game which was played under floodlights, the Blues dominated the game and they needed only fifteen minutes to find the net courtesy of Nsengiyumva Moustapha’s goal.

Nsengiyumva who had a successful evening doubled the lead in the 34th minute when Amagaju Fc goalie Muhawenayo Gadi punched Kwizera Pierrot’s free kick to the incoming Rayon Sports striker who made no mistake but to slot his second goal of the day.

Both sides went into recess with Rayon Sports having a two-goal advantage. After, recess, both sides continued to play an attack-minded game but it’s Rayon Sports who dominated the midfield battle, a feat which enabled Muhire Kevin to score the third goal of the blues in the 60th minutes off a cross from Kwizera Pierro.

Seven minutes later, Djabel Manishimwe dribbled past Amagaju defender to score the fourth goal for Rayon Sports.

Alanga Yenga Joachim snatched the lone consolation goal for the visitors in additional time.

The win has now seen Rayon Sports go 11 points clear of their closest rivals APR Fc at the summit of the Azam Rwanda Premier League. The Blues have now amassed 55 points in 22 matches played this season.

Second-placed and reigning champions APR Fc are on 44 points, followed by Police Fc and AS Kigali who have 43 points each, having won 17 matches, drawn four and lost only once.

Gicumbi Fc and Pepiniere Fc lie in the relegation zone with 18 and 12 points respectively.

With eight matches remaining to the end of the 2016/17 Azam Rwanda Premier League, the blues are clear favorite winners of the league title.
