Peace Cup: Second division clubs face early exit

Second Division Clubs face early exit in the 2017 Peace Cup competition following disappointing displays in the first leg of the 1/16th round played mid this week.

On Tuesday, former champions and league title reigning champions APR Fc who were away to Vision Fc at Mumena stadium won the game 3-0 with Djamal Mwiseneza, Sekamana Maxime and Onesme Twizerimana scoring the crucial goals.

In other matches played on Tuesday, Esperance SK, another second division side lost 1-4 to Espoir Fc in a game played earlier at Mumena stadium, Isonga Fc who were away to Musanze Fc in Northern Province lost 0-3 while first division league relegation side Pepiniere Fc lost 0-1 to Marines Fc in Ruyenzi.

On Wednesday, reigning Peace Cup champions Rayon Sports Fc walloped second division side Rugende Training Centre 9-0 at Stade de Kigali.

Rayon Sports coach Massoud Djuma rested majority of his first choice players ahead of the return leg of the CAF Confederation Cup Play-Off Round due on Saturday at Amahoro stadium.

In the 9-0 rout of Rugende TC, Malian international Tidiane Kone scored the opening goal, Lomami Frank snatched a double, Burundian import Shassir Nahimana grabbed a hattrick, while Rugende TC defender Jean Pierre one for the Blues through an own goal before Nizeyimana Idrissa sealed the fate grabbing his debutant goal for the visitors.

Elsewhere, AS Kigali managed a 1-0 win away to Heroes Fc at Kicukiro Stadium; Etoile de l’est held SC Kiyovu to a 1-all draw in Ngoma, Amagaju Fc managed a 2-1 win away to Akagera Fc in Rwinkamvu, AS Muhanga thrashed Vision JN 4-0 in Rubavu while Miroplast Fc lost 0-2 to Gicumbi fc at Stade Mironko.

In Kabagari, United Stars lost 0-1 to Police Fc, Hope Fc and Bugesera Fc played to a 1-all draw in Rutsiro, La Jeunesse edged Aspor Fc 2-0 at Kicukiro, Sunrise Fc defeated Rwamagana City in Rwamagana while Mukura VS walloped second division side Intare Fc 4-0 in Huye.

The second leg of the 1/16th round will be played mid week on April 25 and 26 respectively to determine who proceeds to the 1/8th round.

The 1/8th round legs will be played in May as well as the first leg of the quarter final round while the second leg of the last eight will be played in the first week of June.

All semi-final matches will be staged in June while the final has been set on its traditional date, July 4, 2017.
