CECAFA congratulates President Kagame on polls victory

Posted on Aug 06 2017

THE Confederation of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) has sent a congratulatory message to President Paul Kagame upon his re-election as President of the Rwanda.

The incumbent, President Paul Kagame, won with 98.63 per cent of the vote after 6,650,722 Rwandans cast their ballots in his favour.

Independent Candidate Phillippe Mpayimana garnered came second with 49,117 votes (0.73 per cent) while the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda candidate Frank Habineza trailed with 31,633 votes (0.47 per cent).

The Cecafa Secretary General Nicholas Musonye said in a statement on Sunday, “The Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) wish to take this opportunity to congratulate HE President Paul Kagame for his resounding victory in the just concluded Rwanda elections.

“The people of Rwanda have once again demonstrated their maturity by keeping faith in President Kagame and the Ruling FPR party. That confidence is demonstrated in the higher voter turn-out and the unassailable winning margin by President Kagame.

“As CECAFA we wish to congratulate our Patron President Kagame and thank the people of Rwanda for the peaceful manner they demonstrated before, during and after the elections,”

“We are confident that the president will continue with his vision of rebuilding Rwanda and place the beautiful country on a further lane of development and peace,”

“Good bless Rwanda, God bless President Kagame,” added Musonye.

Since 2002, Kagame has been pivotal in the development of football in the region with his annual sponsorship worth $60.000 as cash prize for winners in the Cecafa/Kagame club championship.
