Posted on Sep 04 2017

The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) is conducting a five-day FIFA Physical Fitness Training for Coaches and Physical Trainers Course which began on Monday with 30 coaches in attendance at FERWAFA headquarters in Remera, Kigali City.

The course which will conclude on Friday, September 8, 2017 is sponsored by the World Football body, FIFA.

The main purpose of this course is to create a base of fitness coaches in football as the level of fitness is very much key in as far as the players’ performance is concerned.

The Physical Fitness course which is being conducted by FIFA’s Fitness Instructor, Pierre Barrieu includes strength training, speed training, agility training, power training, endurance training and proper techniques for warming up and cooling down before and after matches.

During the opening ceremony held on Monday, FERWAFA President Vincent Nzamwita thanked FIFA for their valuable support towards the development of Rwandan football most especially through such coaching courses.

“I want to thank all coaches who have managed to attend this course hence I am requesting you to give more value to this course because not only will it equip you to be more professional in your work but it will help Rwandan players in improving their fitness levels ahead of the different scheduled FERWAFA competitions,”

"During these fours years that we served Rwandan football, we have put much effort in improving the level of our coaches and results speak for themselves. If we are able to see our players being recruited by regional clubs, it’s because of the good work that you are doing in your respective clubs. So I am requesting you to put in much effort in your work to uplift the standards of Rwandan football through the grassroots level,"

“I also want to thank FIFA for their continued commitment and assistance extended to FERWAFA in as far as developing our football through these courses is concerned because they will advance your knowledge in football training,”

The FIFA instructor Barrieu urged local coaches to fully focus on this fitness course because it’s an opportunity that comes once in a while.

"This course will help to equip more knowledge in your career such that you can be more professional. I am requesting everyone to commit to this course throughout this week because there is a lot to learn which will go towards developing your players and Rwandan football by experimenting the skills gained in the different clubs that you manage. Being fit is very important to play the sport," he added.

Such courses play a vital role in matching the latest trends in the game hence the need to adequately train the coaches to add to their knowledge in the profession. It is expected that the participants of this course will put what they will learn to good use in their respective teams.
