Football fraternity urged to embrace Agaciro Fund

Posted on Sep 07 2017

Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) and Agaciro Development Fund (AgDF) officials have urged the football fraternity across the country to turn up in big numbers in bid to embrace Rwanda’s sovereign wealth fund through the Agaciro Football Championship which starts on Saturday at Amahoro Stadium.

The call was made by the Vice President of Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) Kayiranga Vedaste who was accompanied by Charles Mugabe, the Chief Investment Officer at AgDF) in today’s press conference held at FERWAFA headquarters in Remera.

Kayiranga said, “We are having a championship of country’s top four clubs. It’s going to be very exciting considering that all clubs have beefed their squads ahead of the new season,“

“I am urging Rwandans to come in large numbers to support their teams and also play a role in contributing to the Agaciro Development Fund. The Agaciro Fund has contributed a lot to the development of our country and if we continue to support the fund financially, then we can be assured of a more better Rwanda tomorrow.

“Let’s define the legacy of our future generation by supporting the Agaciro fund today to ensure that no adversity will derail our country,” he added.

On his part, Charles Mugabe, the Chief Investment Officer at Agaciro Development Fund stressed the importance of Rwanda’s sovereign wealth fund.

He said, “The aim of AgDF is to raise more domestic resources to help accelerate economic development of Rwanda. The fund is ours and we should preserve and develop it. So everyone should take pride in being part of this journey to prepare a better future for our descendants,”

“I am inviting the sports fraternity and every Rwandan to join us this weekend through the Agaciro Football Championship in our effort to fulfill our obligations to take Rwanda as a Nation where it deserves to be and ensure that we build a better Rwanda for ourselves and especially safeguard wealth for the generations that come after us,” added Mugabe.

The 2017 Agaciro Football Championship will attract Rwanda‘s big four namely; Rayon Sports, Police Fc, APR Fc and AS Kigali.

In the opening matches of the championship on Saturday, AS Kigali will face APR Fc while reigning league champions Rayon Sports will take on Police Fc, all matches to be staged at Amahoro Stadium.

The Agaciro Development Fund football championship is being staged as part of raising funds towards the Agaciro Development Fund, the country’s Rwanda’s sovereign wealth fund.

Agaciro Development Fund was introduced during the 2011 National Dialogue and was launched in August 2012 to build up public savings to achieve self-reliance and accelerate socio-economic development.

Police FC are defending champions having won the inaugural Agaciro Development Fund tournament staged in 2015 following a 1-0 win over Sunrise Fc in the final.
