Agaciro Cup: APR Fc edge closer to title as AS Kigali pips Rayon Sport to launch comeback

Posted on Sep 14 2017

Peace Cup holders APR Fc thrashed Police Fc 3-1 to brighten their chances of winning the Agaciro Football Championship in match day two action held on Wednesday at Amahoro Stadium.

Goals from Bizimana Djihad, Hakizimana Muhadjili and Imran Nshimiyimana handed APR Fc a second victory in the championship to amass six points. Police Fc who lost their second game scored a consolation goal from Songa Isaie.

The win for Jimmy Mulisa’s side puts them in pole position to lift the cup should they maintain a perfect finish against traditional rivals Rayon Sports whom they will face on Saturday.

In the second game which was played under floodlights, AS Kigali secured a hard-earned 1-0 victory over ten-man Rayon Sport in the dying minutes of extra time of the game courtesy of Ndarusanze Jean Claude’s strike before the Burundian import earned himself a second yellow card resulting into a red card following his wild goal celebrations which saw him go into the fans section.

Early in the second half, Rayon Sport were reduced to ten men after center referee Hakizimana Louis dished a straight red card to play maker Kwizera Pierre following an elbow foul on Murengenzi Rodrigue.

AS Kigali’s win over Rayon Sports ensured their comeback for a silverware should they win their final game against Police Fc. The Kigali City sponsored side have three points and a one goal deficit while Police Fc is pointless with a three goal deficit.

The surge for the title is also still open for Rayon Sports who have three points and a zero goal difference, should they also acquire maximum points against rivals APR Fc on the final day of the championship to be held on Saturday.

The Agaciro Development Fund football championship is being staged as part of raising funds towards the Agaciro Development Fund, the country’s Rwanda’s sovereign wealth fund.

Police FC are defending champions having won the inaugural Agaciro Development Fund tournament staged in 2015 following a 1-0 win over Sunrise Fc in the final.
