Police Fc seek first league win against Mukura VS

Posted on Oct 13 2017

Under pressure Police FC head coach Innocent Seninga has said he is determined to get his first win of the season when his team takes on Mukura Victory Sports on the second day of the Azam Rwanda Premier League due this afternoon at Huye Stadium.

Police Fc, who finished second last season, lost the league opener 3-1 against Etincelles FC a fortnight ago and Seninga goes into today’s game hoping to avoid a second successive defeat.

Mukura VS defeated Kirehe FC 1-0 on match-day 1 in Nyakarambi and will be seeking to make it two wins out of two, and increase pressure on Seninga whose team has lost the last four matches including three pre-season friendlies.

Police Fc have not been at their best since pre-season losing to APR Fc, Rayon Sports and AS Kigali 2-1, 1-0 and 3-1 respectively in the Agaciro Development Fund tournament.

“It is not good to lose the opening game, but even last season we lost the opening game against Rayon Sports and we went on to finish in second place, so I believe even the season we can do better than previous year,” Seninga told Times Sport.

In his first season, Seninga did not win any silverware, but his bosses were impressed with what they saw and handed him another three-year contract, worth a reported Rwf72 million to prove himself.

Seninga has been tasked to win at least one trophy in his second year after replacing Andre Cassa Mbungo at the start of last season. Mbungo guided Police to the Peace Cup title as well as the inaugural Agaciro tourney.

Last season, Mukura and Police drew 0-0 in first round before Seninga’s team won 2-1 in the second round.

Meanwhile, Mukura’s new head coach Francis Haringingo admitted that it is not going to be easy against Police as their opponents will come looking to get all three points.

“We are facing a good team. It is always very hard to win every game in a season, but we are going to do all we can to make it two wins in a row. In football, you win, draw and lose but our target will be to get three points,” noted the Burundian tactician.

The league will continue on Saturday when Marines host APR at Umuganda Stadium. APR FC got their bid for a record-extending 17th league title, off to a winning start, beating Sunrise FC 2-0 in their season opener. Marines won 2-1 against newly promoted Miroplast FC.

After drawing against champions Rayon Sports in the first match, AS Kigali will host Miroplast at Kigali Stadium, Sunrise FC will be up against flying Gicumbi, who won their league opener against Espoir while Amagaju which beat Bugesera two weeks ago, will be up against Kirehe at Nyagisenyi ground.
