Interforce Fc replace Isonga Fc as D2 clubs opt to use U-23 players in 2017/18 season

Interforce Fc has replaced Isonga Fc in the 2017/18 Second Division League which is slated to kick-off on November 11, 2017.

Last week, Isonga Fc withdrew from competing in all Rwanda Football Association (FERWAFA) competitions so as to focus on operating as a football academy, which was their original intention when the team was first started in 2011.

Following their withdrawal, the FERWAFA Execuive Committee decided to replace them with Interforce Fc which had requested to return back to the second division league after missing last season to fully raise their youthful squad players.

Now, Interforce will be pooled in Group B alongside UR Fc, Rugende Fc, La Jeunesse, Intare Fc, Heroes Fc, Vision JN, AS Muhanga, SEC Fc, Hope Fc and United Stars.

Group A is composed of Gasabo United, Esperance Fc, Sorwathe Fc, Pepiniere Fc, Unity SC, Nyagatare Fc, Aspor Fc, Etoile de l’est, Rwamagana City Fc, Vision Fc, Akagera Fc and Gitikinyoni Fc.

Feature U-23 Players
In a meeting held on Wednesday at Rwanda Football Federation, second division clubs agreed to feature players aged between 15-23 in the upcoming season while no foreign player will be allowed to feature in the second football tier.

The two finalists of the second division league are guaranteed of automatic spots to compete in the 2018/19 Azam Rwanda Premier League.

Last season, Miroplast Fc and Isonga Fc were promoted to the top flight league but Isonga Fc had to withdraw to participating in the 2017/18 Azam Rwanda Premier League.

Isonga Fc had been in FERWAFA competitions for the last six years—last season Isonga qualified to the topflight division but eventually withdrew, which handed SC Kiyovu a second chance to stay in the Azam Rwanda Premier League despite being relegated at the end of last season.
