The team started the first phase of preparations which is involving all the forty summoned players undergoing a pre-selection stint at FERWAFA turf as Coach Kayiranga Jean Baptista seeks to pick 30 players who will join the final residential camp from next week in build for the final tournament.

Speaking on Monday in a news briefing at FERWAFA headquarters in Remera, Kayiranga said, “The summoned players have potential to excel and we believe that they will be ready for the final tournament due in Kigali,”

“This short training stint is aimed at engaging the summoned players to deliver what we need from them as we seek to find the strong team which should represent well our nation in the CECAFA Women Challenge Cup,” added Kayiranga.

The 40 players summoned will today hold two training sessions, one in the morning and another in the afternoon were they will play a friendly match against Isonga academy at Ferwafa turf.

On Wednesday, they will hold a single training session in the morning before players are released back to their clubs.

Thereafter, the technical team will sit to eliminate and come up with a list of 30 players who will be called for the final residential camp expected to start on April 26, 2018.

As hosts, Rwanda will be aiming to win the tournament but will face strong opposition from Ethiopia, defending champions Tanzania and Kenya who have had competitive women teams competing in recent continental and global qualifies.

At the 2016 edition in Uganda, She-Amavubi, then under the tutelage of Grace Nyinawumuntu, was eliminated in the group stage after defeats to Tanzania and Ethiopia.
