FERWAFA names Habimana as New Technical Director

Rwanda soccer governing body, FERWAFA has named Rwandan Habimana Hussein as the Technical Director.

On June 29th, an oral interview for the position of Director of Technical Development was conducted at FERWAFA with a selection of four candidates.

After carefully analyzing their application files in comparison to the requirements for the position of Director of Technical Development position, six candidates were shortlisted. Uwambaza Jean Marie Vianney is the only candidate who didn’t attend the interview session.

The shortlisted candidates included Mbabazi Alain, Habimana Hussein, Muhire Hassan, Seninga Innocent, Rukundo Eugene and Uwambaza Jean Marie Vianney.

The interview questions were centered on presentation and language skills, specific knowledge, methodology/strategies and general football knowledge.

Following a review of the marking sheets, Habimana Hussein emerged with the highest score card and therefore qualified to be the Director of Technical Development Position.

Key Tasks
The New Technical Director Habimana will be tasked with defining and leading the national technical development programmes, therefore preparing the future of Rwandan football.

He will develop a long-term vision and a technical strategy over several years in order to improve the level of the game within our country and achieve identified targets on and off the pitch.

He and his department are likewise in charge of the implementation of all activities related to technical development, as well as the control, monitoring and assessment.

In other words, he is for the technical side what the general secretary is for the management side. Habimana will have a number of key responsibilities for both men’s and women’s football related to mass football, coach education, elite football (men and women) as well as research and documentation.

Who is Habimana
Habimana is a Rwandan who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Management from Universite Libre de Bruxelles obtained from Solvay, Brussels. He played for APR Academy from 1997-2002 and SC Kiyovu from 2003-04 before heading to Europe where he played for Belgium’s RSC Anderlecht U-18-21 from 2004 – 2008, Belgium’s second division side K Boom from 2009-10 and RFC from 2011-2013.

He joins FERWAFA having served on the Technical staff team of the Canadian Girls U17 (Elite) Girls development teams U16-U19-U21 in CS Mont-Royal Outremont. He has more than 5 years of coaching and development at various levels and age groups.
