Gicumbi FC host Amagaju FC in search for first win

Posted on Nov 07 2018

GICUMBI head coach Abdul ‘Bekeni’ Bizimana and his side will be hoping to register their first Azam Rwanda Premier League win this season when they host Amagaju on Wednesday afternoon in Gicumbi District.

The topflight league will take a two-week break for international football this week after five games. Having drawn one game and lost three, Gicumbi are without a victory after four match rounds into the 2018-19 season.

With pressure mounting on the former Etincelles coach, Bizimana has stressed that his focus is on turning the team’s performances around following a poor run of results in the early stages of the domestic football league.

“It’s been quite a disappointing start for us, but we are ready to fight and turn this situation around. There is always pressure in such situations, but the willingness to work and the character in players is there, and that’s the most important thing,” Bizimana said on Tuesday.

It will be a clash of two struggling sides as bottom side Gicumbi take on Amagaju – both having only picked only one point from a possible 12 points.

In another match-day 5 encounter on Wednesday, SC Kiyovu play away to Sunrise at Nyagatare grounds.

League action will continue on Thursday with four games on the menu as Rayon Sports will be hosting Bugesera FC at Kigali Stadium, Espoir facing Kirehe, AS Muhanga squaring off with Marines while Police will be up against Musanze.

APR stretch winning run, Mukura drop points for first time

In the meantime, defending champions APR eased past Etincelles in a 2-0 victory at Umuganda Stadium on Tuesday to stretch their perfect start to five wins in a row.

On the other hand, Peace Cup holders Mukura shared goalless spoils with AS Kigali to drop points for the first time this season.
