2022 FIFA WCQ: Rwanda looks to finish off Seychelles in Kigali

Posted on Sep 10 2019

The Rwanda men’s senior national team, Amavubi takes on Pirates of Secyelles tonight as they seek to register another win in the FIFA World Cup qualification (CAF) first-round second-leg return leg match which will be staged at Stade de Kigali in Kigali City from 18h00.

Rwanda goes into this evening’s tie with a 3-0 goal cushion obtained in the first leg played last week in Victoria.

Speaking to Media on Monday ahead of today’s match, Amavubi head coach Mashami Vincent said, ‘We have prepared well for this match, the squad is in good shape both physically and mentally. No injuries so far.I can only say that we are ready to go again and win this match,’

‘This tie is not yet over although many people have ruled our opponents out. We will take this game very serious and perform as much better than we did in Seychelles,’ added Mashami.

The Amavubi skipper Tuyisenge Jacques said, ‘We are feeling strong mentally and physically ahead of this game.We can only urge fans to come and cheer this team. We are committed to making them Happy again. We want to keep the momentum and consistency to even perform better because we have so many strong matches awaiting us in the upcoming months,’

The Seychelles Coach Jan Mark believes his side will stage good performances to overturn the first leg result. He said, ‘We Hope that we can have good performance tomorrow (today). We also hope that we can come here and score goals because the national team has been struggling to score goals in the last years and that is why we want to do our best in order to change this trend. Everything is possible in sport, we know that we have possibilities and limitations and that’s why we need to play within our possibilities.

With an aggregate victory after tomorrow’s two-legged tie, Rwanda will be assured of a place in the tricky group stage action which begins next year. For the World Cup 2022, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is using the same format as the 2014 edition. Fifty-two teams from Africa are competing in a 12 home and away basis with the winners joining the other teams in the second round matches. Africa has five out of the 32 spots for the World Cup final in Qatar in 2022.

Elsewhere, Angola are set to face Gambia at the Estádio 11 de Novembro after winning 1-0 in the first-leg encounter.

Namibia is scheduled to take on Eritrea at the Sam Nujoma Stadium with the first-leg encounter having ended in a 2-1 win in favour of the Brave Warriors.

Botswana will be hoping to secure an away win when they lock horns with Malawi at the Kamuzu Stadium with the first-leg game having ended in a 0-0 draw.

Zimbabwe will be desperate to avenge the 2-1 defeat they suffered to Somalia at the Barbourfields Stadium.
