FERWAFA president consults members on possible ways to phase out 2019/2020 season

Posted on May 09 2020

The FERWAFA president Sekamana Jean Damascene held two consultative meetings with Rwanda Premier League clubs and Second Division League Clubs on May 8 & 9, 2020 aimed at finding possible ways of completing the 2019/2020 football season which has been affected by Covid-19 Pandemic.

During the consultative meetings which were held via video conferencing, the FERWAFA president thanked all members for exercising patience in handling various hardships affecting their clubs due current crisis.

FERWAFA Competitions have been on halt since mid-March when all activities involving mass gathering were called off as part of the Government’s decision to contain the spread of Covid-19.

Given the fact that FERWAFA Competitions rules don’t establish legal provisions related to such unprecedented crisis on which the Executive Committee can base to reach an immediate decision concerning the completion of 2019/2020 season as the statutory deciding body in such matters related to competitions, it’s the reason why the FERWAFA president has embarked on a mission of giving a platform to every concerned member to air out their proposals on how best this issue can be handled. Their Proposals will then be considered in decision making process by the FERWAFA Executive Committee.

During these two separate consultative meetings, all clubs exchanged views basing on the information and competitions’ status reports provided by the FERWAFA Competitions while putting into consideration FERWAFA’s priority on the health and safety of players, coaches, managers, club staff, supporters and the wider community.

The FERWAFA president is expected to hold a final consultative meeting with representatives of the women football league clubs later next week then after the FERWAFA Executive Committee will deliberate on the final decision to be taken based on their members’ proposals related to completion of FERWAFA Competitions before May 30, 2020.
