The Fédération Rwandaise de Football Association (FERWAFA) denounces information shared by cafonline.com regarding the resumption of the Primus National League.

The story published on cafonline.com reads ‘’Due to long halts because of Covid-19 pandemic, Rwanda’s Football Federation (FERWAFA) decided to play the Rwandan Premier League in the form of a group stage instead of the usual round-robin league.’’ Furthermore, the story quotes the FERWAFA Assistant Spokesperson, Mr Jules KARANGWA saying that ‘’we have come up with the idea of grouping teams so that we can finish the league before June, as we want to go with CAF calendar for the coming season.’’

The league has been halted due to the pandemic and jointly FERWAFA, the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Health are working towards resuming the league as soon as possible. Claims of resuming the league on April 15, 2021 are NOT true. In addition to this there has not been any league format approved by the competent bodies of FERWAFA.

‘’The article should be totally disregarded as I have not talked to anyone from CAF media team to be quoted confirming the details of the restart of the league. I don’t know the source of this article. Besides, there is no way we can confirm the restart dates while FERWAFA is still waiting for the permission from the Ministry of sports to resume Football activities’’ added Mr Jules KARANGWA, the FERWAFA Assistant Spokesperson.

FERWAFA has already submitted all relevant documents as requested by the Ministry of Sports and we are impatiently waiting for permission to resume the league. Once granted permission, FERWAFA will communicate the new dates on which the league shall be resumed as well as the format that will be adopted in consideration of the next season dates.
