FERWAFA has officially launched the National Scouting Workshop, a key initiative aimed at strengthening talent identification and player development across Rwanda.

The first three-day session commenced on Monday, July 20, 2026, at the University of Rwanda (College of Education). The training is being led by scouting expert Derek Bragg, who is working closely with the Rwanda National Teams Department to establish a structured and sustainable scouting network across the country.

The initiative is being implemented with the support of Rwanda National Team Head Coach Stephen Constantine and Rwanda National Team Goalkeepers Coach Rogério Ramos dal Solio as part of FERWAFA’s efforts to strengthen the country's football development structure.

A total of 29 participants are attending the Kigali workshop, where they are receiving training in football scouting and talent identification. The group includes former national team players and Rwandan football legends such as Haruna Niyonzima, Meddie Kagere, Eric Ndayishimiye “Bakame”, Ernest Sugira, Yves Kimenyi, Eric Rutanga, Soter Kayumba, Jean Marie Vianney Muvandimwe, Fiston Nkinzingabo, and Michel Ndahinduka.

Throughout the course, participants will take part in both theoretical and practical sessions focused on player observation, evaluation, analysis, and reporting. The training aims to equip scouts with the skills and tools needed to identify promising talent and produce professional scouting reports using standardized methods.

Following the Kigali session, additional workshops will be held at the University of Rwanda in Huye from July 24–26 and in Rwamagana from July 28–30 as FERWAFA continues to expand the program across the country.

The National Scouting Program is expected to play a significant role in strengthening Rwanda’s talent development pathway and creating more opportunities for young players to progress within the game.
