After 28 years of waiting, Rayon Sports FC have reclaimed the CECAFA Kagame Cup 2026 edition, defeating Kenya’s Gor Mahia FC 2–1 in extra time of the final match held on Friday, August 7 at Amahoro Stadium.

The hard-fought final saw Rayon Sports take the lead through Junior Kameni in the first half before Gor Mahia fought back to level the contest, forcing the match into extra time. The decisive moment came in the opening 15 minutes of extra time when young skipper Muhoza Daniel found the breakthrough to seal a historic victory for the Rwandan giants.

The triumph capped a remarkable campaign for Rayon Sports, who collected almost everything on offer at the CECAFA Kagame Cup 2026 awards ceremony, which officially brought the tournament to a close on 7th August 2026 at Amahoro Stadium.

Alongside the coveted trophy, Rayon Sports claimed three major individual and team honours. Defender Emmanuel Nshimiyimana was named Player of the Tournament, while goalkeeper Dandé Junior received the Golden Glove for his outstanding performances throughout the competition. The club was also recognised with the Fair Play accolade.

The historic trophy was presented to Rayon Sports by Rt Hon. Prime Minister Justin Nsengiyumva, adding further significance to an unforgettable night for the club and its supporters.

The Golden Boot was jointly awarded to Al Ahli SC Assumana Samura and APR FC striker Sheikh Djibril Ouattara, who both finished the tournament with three goals.

For Rayon Sports, the triumph marks the end of a 28-year wait for the prestigious regional club title and adds another significant chapter to the club’s illustrious history.
