ES Kayonza Modern and Center for Champion Crowned AFSC 2026 National Champions

ES Kayonza Modern and Center for Champion have been crowned champions of the African Schools Football Championship (AFSC) 2026 National Phase, following exciting finals played on 28 August 2026 at the FERWAFA Pitch.


In the Boys’ final, ES Kayonza Modern were held to a 1–1 draw by ESG Rubavu in regular time before showing composure in the decisive penalty shootout, winning 3–1 on penalties to lift the national title.


In the Girls’ final, Center for Champion produced a dominant display, defeating APAER 6–1 in a convincing performance to claim the championship.

The AFSC National Phase is a competition for U15 school students, providing a platform for young footballers to showcase their talent, gain valuable competitive experience and take another step in their football development.

The newly crowned champions will now carry Rwanda’s flag on the regional stage, representing the country at the CAF African Schools Football Championship 2026 CECAFA Qualifiers, scheduled to take place in Rwanda in September 2026.

With the national phase concluded, ES Kayonza Modern and Center for Champion now turn their focus to the CECAFA qualifiers, where they will compete against the region’s best school teams for a place at the next stage of the African Schools Football Championship.
