KIGALI, 5 September 2026 — Former France international and Manchester United legend Patrice Evra met with Rwanda’s Amavubi U15 Boys and Girls at Amahoro Stadium on Saturday morning, sharing an inspiring message about the values needed to succeed in football and in life.
The engagement was held in partnership with Visit Rwanda, giving the young players an opportunity to interact with one of football’s most accomplished figures.
Drawing from his own journey, Evra told the young players that talent alone is not enough to reach the highest level. He encouraged them to embrace discipline, hard work and resilience, regardless of their background or circumstances.
“In my journey, I built everything from zero. Just like you, I grew up in an environment where my background did not necessarily favor me. But I made it to professional football, won a lot of silverware and represented my national team. I did it not only because of talent, but because of discipline, hard work and resilience.
“You have to do the same. Work hard, stay disciplined and never give up when things get difficult. If you do that, you will thank me later. I love this game.”
Evra’s message reflected the journey of a player who rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most decorated defenders of his generation.
During his time with Manchester United, Evra won five Premier League titles, among several other major honours. He was also part of the France squad that reached the 2006 FIFA World Cup final.
The former left-back encouraged the Amavubi U15 players to use their current opportunities as a foundation for their future careers, emphasizing that determination and character are essential alongside football ability.
The event was attended by Minister of State in the Ministry of Sports Rwego Ngarambe and FERWAFA 2nd Vice President Richard Mugisha.
For the young Amavubi players, Evra’s visit provided more than an opportunity to meet a football legend. It was a lesson from someone who experienced the challenges of the journey himself and went on to reach the highest levels of the game.
His message was simple and powerful: talent may open the door, but discipline, hard work and resilience can take you through it.
