As part of the 2024 Women’s Football projects supported by FIFA, FERWAFA (Rwanda Football Association), in collaboration with FIFA, have on this 14th December 2024, jointly launched an inspiring initiative at Kigali Pele Stadium, a project which aims at developing young girls' football talent. The campaign focuses on the U13 and U15 age groups, targeting young girls who have the potential to become future stars of Rwandan football.
Four key teams are at the forefront of this campaign namely, Umuri Foundation WFC, FOREVER WFC, KAMONYI WFC, and Bugesera WFC. These teams are not only playing a role in developing skills but are also dedicated to inspiring a new generation of female footballers in Rwanda. The aim is to start early training, mobilizing girls to embrace football and nurture their talents from a young age.
This initiative is timely, with a growing emphasis on the importance of youth development in African football. By offering early exposure to competitive football environments, the campaign sets the foundation for long-term success, not only for the individual players but for the broader development of women’s football in Rwanda.
Through these efforts, FERWAFA and FIFA hope to not only uncover young football talent but also create a culture of support for girls’ sports in Rwanda. The future of Rwandan women's football looks bright, as this campaign empowers young girls to follow their dreams and showcase their skills on the world stage, we are therefore grateful for this partnership with FIFA, who wholeheartedly bought our idea and agreed to partner with us on this; said the Commissioner in charge of Women Football Development Mrs. MUNYANKAKA Ancilla.
In addition to various prizes for the winning teams, all participating teams were given Footballs and other equipment to help them decently train and giving opportunity for more girls to practice and play football.
