In the quiet evening air of Mbombela, Mpumalanga, where the Amavubi wrapped up their final 2026 World Cup Qualifier fixture, FERWAFA President reminded the media that true football strength is born from the roots, not the branches.
Speaking to the Rwandan media delegation that accompanied the national team in South Africa, he reflected on the journey, the lessons, and the road ahead, following the team’s narrow elimination after a disappointing defeat at home to Benin on October 10th, which was followed by another defeat on the Final game against Bafana Bafana
“This is a moment for reflection, not regret,” he said softly, his tone carrying both weight and warmth. “We must start strengthening our football from the youngest age groups, from the school pitches to the grassroots academies. Only when our children play, compete, and dream from an early stage will the nation’s flag fly higher in the years to come.”
He emphasized the need for strong youth competitions both locally and across the region, noting that early and consistent competition is the heartbeat of long-term success.
“Let us build a culture of youth tournaments, regional rivalries, and national pride at every level,” he added. “If we raise the standard at the foundation, the senior national team will naturally rise with it stronger, sharper, and more competitive.”
Despite the heartbreak of lost qualification hopes, the President spoke with optimism, his message turning toward unity and renewal.
