A DAY THAT SPARKLED FOR THE FUTURE OF GIRL’S FOOTBALL

In the warm fields of Nyagatare, where dust rises like hope and laughter carries like music, a new chapter for young girls’ football unfolded. Under the FIFA Women’s Program, FERWAFA joined hands today 22nd November 2025, with the spirited U13 and U15 girls from four academies namely, Mimuri Generation, Happy Boys & Girls, Warriors Sports Center, and Katabagemu FTC.

More than 98 bright-eyed young players gathered, each carrying a dream that glowed just a little brighter under the morning sun.

Standing before them was Umutoni Géraldine, a legend, a pioneer, a guardian of the women’s game. Holder of a CAF C Licence, Rwanda’s only licensed female Goalkeeper Coach, and once the proud wall of APR FC and the Amavubi, inspired the young players through her successful journey in Football.

As the event unfolded, the message became clear: this was not only about training, but life changing experience for young girls.

Mrs. Nikita GICANDA Valverde, FERWAFA’s Commissioner in charge of Women’s Football, who presided over the program of the day spoke on behalf of FERWAFA.

Her words, steady as a drumbeat, echoed the vision shared by FIFA and FERWAFA, a future where young girls walk toward the field not as guests, but as rightful stars of the game.

Thanks to the unwavering support of Nyagatare District, the day became a celebration of possibility, a reminder that partnerships don’t just make programs; they make pathways.

What began as a FIFA-supported initiative, became a festival of inspiration, a gathering of dreams, a spark for tomorrow’s heroes, and as the sun set on the field, where little boots marched away with bigger dreams, and the future of women’s football in Rwanda felt brighter than ever before.
