FERWAFA SUPER CUP: PRIZE MONEY DOUBLED, EQUAL REWARDS FOR BOTH MEN AND WOMEN

Speaking during the press conference, held on this 22nd December 2025, the Second Vice President in charge of Development and Technical Affairs at FERWAFA, Mr. Richard Mugisha, stressed that to enhance the value of the Super Cup and to further promote the development of women’s football, the Super Cup prize money has been doubled and will be equal for both men and women.


“The team that wins the Super Cup will receive 20 million Rwandan francs, while the runner-up will be awarded 10 million. These prizes will be equal for both men’s and women’s teams, as part of our commitment to elevating the stature of the Super Cup as we accelerate the growth of women Football” Mugisha said.

Today’s press conference held by the FERWAFA leadership focused on the preparations for the country’s most prestigious cup competition (Super Cup) which will feature APR FC versus Rayon Sports FC in the men’s category at 06:30 PM, and Rayon Sports WFC against Indahangarwa WFC in the women’s category at 03:00 PM. Both matches are scheduled to take place on January 10, 2025.


Addressing the media, FERWAFA General Secretary Mr. Bonnie Mugabe noted: “FERWAFA is still in discussions with sponsors to ensure that the Super Cup will be a visually appealing event, combined with other entertainment activities. Fans who attend will enjoy high-quality football plus entertainment.”

It is also worth noting that only players who will be registered and hold valid licenses will be eligible to participate in the competition, the existing Rwanda Premier League regulations, particularly those governing the number of foreign players allowed on the pitch, will be strictly observed.

In the men’s category, APR FC won both the Peace Cup and the Rwanda Premier League in the previous season. As a result, Rayon Sports FC, who finished as runners-up in the Rwanda Premier League, qualified to face APR FC in the Super Cup.

In the women’s category, Rayon Sports WFC were crowned champions of the previous Women’s Division One League, currently known as the National Women Super League. Meanwhile, Indahangarwa WFC secured qualification for the Super Cup after winning the Peace Cup, defeating Rayon Sports WFC by 4–2 in the final.

The Peace Cup final will be staged at Amahoro Stadium. The competition was last won by Police FC, who defeated APR FC 6–4 on penalties after the match ended in a goalless draw. And in Women Category, Rayon Sports WFC won 5-2 against AS Kigali WFC.
