FERWAFA President elected as CECAFA Executive Committee Member

The President of the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA), Fabrice Shema Ngoga, has been elected as a member of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Executive Committee following the CECAFA Elective General Assembly held in Djibouti on Saturday, February 7, 2026.


The high-level assembly brought together presidents and senior delegates from the 12 CECAFA member associations to elect new office bearers who will steer the regional football body for the next mandate, as well as to deliberate on key strategic and administrative matters affecting football development in the region.

During the elections, Paulos Weldehaimanot Andemariam, President of the Eritrean National Football Federation, was elected unopposed as CECAFA President, marking a new chapter in the leadership of the regional football governing body. His election reflects the confidence of member associations in his vision for strengthening football governance, competitions, and development across East and Central Africa.

The Somali Football Federation President, Ali Abdi Mohamed, was elected as CECAFA Vice President, further reinforcing inclusive leadership within the zone.

The election of Fabrice Shema Ngoga to the Executive Committee is a significant milestone for Rwandan football, underlining FERWAFA’s growing influence and active participation in regional football governance. His presence on the committee is expected to contribute to policy formulation, strategic planning, and the advancement of football development initiatives across the CECAFA zone.

In his remarks, President Fabrice said that he will help the new leadership in ensuring that it achieves its deserved growth and sustainability while increasing the level of development and competition and strengthening collaboration with CAF, FIFA and other partners.

Beyond elections, the General Assembly also addressed key statutory and developmental matters. Delegates approved the CECAFA budget for 2026 and adopted the CECAFA Competitions Calendar for 2026, setting the framework for regional tournaments and activities throughout the year. These decisions aim to enhance organizational efficiency, competition planning, and the overall growth of football within the region.

The successful conclusion of the Elective General Assembly in Djibouti reaffirmed CECAFA’s commitment to good governance, regional cooperation, and the continued development of football at all levels across East and Central Africa.

CECAFA is made of 12 member associations namely: Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Somalia, Sudan, and Zanzibar.
