Judicial bodies take part in FIFA-FERWAFA Governance session

The FERWAFA members of the judicial bodies convened today for a high-level FIFA–FERWAFA Governance session aimed at strengthening institutional standards, legal clarity and good governance practices.

In attendance was FIFA’s Member Associations Governance Services Manager Ms. Emilie Domm, accompanied by FIFA Regional Office Lead Davis Ndayisenga and MA Development Manager Sixbert Habimana. 

Representing FERWAFA was First Vice President in charge of Administration and Finance, Me. Claudine Gasarabwe, General Secretary/CEO Bonnie Mugabe, Executive committee member in charge of legal and governance affairs Me. Louis Ndengiyingoma. Also present were members of Legal and Governance commission, Arbitration Tribunal, Disciplinary and Appeals Committees and Appeals body, as well as FERWAFA staff from the Legal office.


Opening the session, Me. Gasarabwe encouraged members to make full use of the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and translate the acquired insights into practical application.

Their participation reflected a shared commitment to reinforcing the integrity, transparency, and effectiveness of football governance structures in Rwanda.

The main presentation was delivered by Ms. Emilie Doms who focused on principles of decent governance and international standards applicable to football associations. 


Participants also reviewed resolutions and matters arising from the recently held legal retreat, providing clarity on their implications and expected follow-up actions.

In addition, the session examined the FERWAFA Statutes and Electoral Code, with particular emphasis on provisions requiring interpretation or further clarification. This segment was highly interactive, allowing participants to raise questions, exchange views, and align their understanding with FIFA governance expectations and best practices.

The FIFA–FERWAFA Governance session marked an important step in consolidating sound governance and legal coherence within FERWAFA’s judicial structures. Through expert guidance, open dialogue, and collective reflection, participants enhanced their understanding of governance standards, legal frameworks, and institutional responsibilities. 

The session reaffirmed FERWAFA’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous capacity building, laying a stronger foundation for credible and effective football administration going forward.
