Elite FIFA TDS Competitions set to unveil Rwanda’s Next Generation

Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has today officially launched the Elite FIFA TDS Competitions, a major step toward rebuilding and strengthening youth football in Rwanda.

In partnership with FIFA, the ceremony took place at Kamena Stadium in Huye District.

The FERWAFA Second Vice President in charge of Technical Matters and Development, Mr. Richard Mugisha graced the event which brought together local leaders, youth coaches, and football legends.

Speaking at the event, Mugisha reaffirmed FERWAFA’s commitment to supporting young footballers and building a strong development pathway for future stars.

“Through the FIFA TDS programme, we are creating a structured pathway for young players to develop and reach higher levels of the game. This competition is an important step in identifying and nurturing young football talent in Rwanda,” he said.

The ceremony was highlighted by three exciting youth matches showcasing the programme’s promising teams.

In the U14 Boys category, PSG Academy Rwanda edged ES Nyamagabe 3–2 in a closely contested match. PSG Academy Rwanda Girls also impressed with a 3–1 victory over GS Remera Rukoma in the U14 Girls match.

The day concluded with an intense U16 Boys encounter in which Runda TSS defeated PSG Academy Rwanda 3–2.

Currently, the competition which started on March 7 has attracted 54 teams across four age categories: U14 Girls, U14 Boys, U16 Girls, and U16 Boys. By providing regular competition and structured training opportunities, the initiative aims to strengthen grassroots football while discovering talented players from different regions of the country.

As part of the global FIFA Talent Development Scheme, Rwanda is positioning itself to build a sustainable youth development system that will help produce the next generation of football stars and enhance the long-term competitiveness of Rwandan football.
