Inaugural TDS Competition season comes to a climax in Rwanda

The inaugural edition of the FIFA Talent Development Scheme (FIFA TDS) Competitions 2026 came to a successful climax this weekend in Rubavu District, marking a major milestone in the development of youth football in Rwanda.

The TDS Competition which was launched on 14 March 2026, brought together football academies and schools from across the country in the U14 and U16 boys' and girls' categories, providing young players with a platform to compete, develop their skills, and showcase their talent.



The U14 finals were held on Saturday, June 27 with Center for Champions winning the Girls U14 title after defeating Petit Séminaire de Baptiste 3-1. In the Boys U14 final category, Kayonza Modern edged PSG Football Academy 4-3 on penalties after an entertaining 3-3 draw.


The competition concluded on Sunday, June 28 with the U16 finals. The PSG Football Academy claimed the Girls U-16 title by beating APE Rugunga 8-7 on penalties following a 1-1 draw, while FC Bayern Munich Academy Rwanda secured the Boys U-16 championship with a commanding 3-0 victory over FTC Mahembe.


The FIFA Talent Development Scheme (FIFA TDS), launched by FIFA in 2022 under the leadership of FIFA Chief of Global Football Development, Arsène Wenger, aims to identify and develop young football talent by providing structured training and competitive opportunities for boys and girls.

The successful first edition of FIFA TDS Competitions Rwanda showcased emerging talents from across the country and strengthened the pathway for developing the next generation of Rwandan footballers.
