Rwanda Women’s Football reached a defining milestone as FERWAFA officially unveiled the new logo and name of the Women Division One League, henceforth to be known as the Rwanda Women’s Super League The historic unveiling marks a bold step toward enhanced visibility, stronger branding, and greater commercial appeal for women’s football in Rwanda.
Speaking during the ceremony, the FERWAFA President Mr. SHEMA NGOGA Fabrice described the rebranding as a transformative moment for the women’s game, emphasizing that it goes beyond identity to real value creation for clubs and players.
“This is a great milestone for Rwanda women’s football. The new name and logo add value to the competition and reflect our ambition to grow the league. We have doubled the prize money for the champions and expanded the number of awarded teams from one to six. This is a clear signal to partners and investors that the Rwanda Women’s Super League is open for business,” he said.
The FERWAFA President further used the occasion to call upon partners and investors to join hands in developing the league and women’s football at large, noting that sustainable growth requires collective commitment.
However, he also acknowledged existing challenges affecting the image and progress of the league, particularly the issue of inadequate football infrastructures.
“We are aware that insufficient infrastructures remain a major challenge. That is why FERWAFA has established an ad hoc committee on infrastructures, tasked with identifying gaps and proposing concrete solutions. We strongly encourage investors to invest in football infrastructures, as they are key to the future of our game,” he added.
Echoing this vision, the FERWAFA Commissioner in charge of Women’s Football Development highlighted that the unveiling of the league’s name and logo is part of a broader strategic plan aimed at uplifting the standard of the competition.
“The Rwanda Women’s Super League identity is one of several initiatives designed to raise the level of the tournament. This new brand will greatly facilitate visibility, marketing, and commercialization of the league, opening new opportunities for clubs and stakeholders,” she noted.
The unveiling of the Rwanda Women’s Super League identity stands as a historic statement of intent, a commitment to professionalism, growth, and recognition of women’s football as a key pillar of the Rwandan football ecosystem. With a strong brand, improved incentives, and a clear call for partnership, the future of Rwanda women’s football enters a new and promising era.
